This also marks the 13th time Jay-Z has hit platinum status with a solo effort, giving him the most platinum certifications for any hip-hop artist in music history. He’s also earned the distinction with four collaborations, including 2011’s “Watch the Throne” with now-nemesis Kanye West.

Jay-Z’s last solo project, 2013’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” achieved platinum status on the day of its physical release, with shipments of 1 million copies. It also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with sales of more than 500,000.

The “4:44” album will hit record stores and other streaming services Friday.
