Maroon 5 might have found their Super Bowl partner.
Houston rapper Travis Scott is reportedly in talks to join the “Payphone” pop-rockers when they take the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Feb. 3 for a halftime performance.
The NFL has yet to formally announce the Atlanta halftime act – Lady Gaga’s participation was revealed in September 2016 and Justin Timberlake’s in October 2017 – signaling that the league would prefer a lineup locked in before unveiling “Maroon 5 and Friends.”
It’s also no secret that many artists have called for a boycott of the Super Bowl in a show of solidarity with currently unemployed NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Scott, who sold out State Farm Arena in November and is returning to the venue for an encore performance on March 22, is nominated for three Grammy Awards Feb. 10 for his “Astroworld” album (Best Rap Album) and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his No. 1 hit this summer “Sicko Mode,” featuring superstar Drake. Scott also has multiplatinum singles with “Antidote,” “Goosebumps” (with Kendrick Lamar) and “Butterfly Effect.”
Along with a potential Scott guest shot, Cardi B, who sings with Maroon 5 on their hit, “Girls Like You,” is also reportedly mulling a Super Bowl appearance. The molten-hot rapper – currently estranged from Migos’ Offset – will be in Atlanta the night before the game to perform with Bruno Mars at the Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest at State Farm Arena.
