Jacksonville Humane Society making changes to Saturday’s annual Mutt March

It’s time for the annual Mutt March hosted by the Jacksonville Humane Society, but this year’s version will look a little different if you decide to go on Saturday.

The Humane Society says they’ve reimagined the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2021 event is being dubbed the Mutt Market.

“Mutt Market is a variation of Mutt March, Jacksonville’s Largest Pet Walk and Festival,” Jacksonville Humane Society CEO Denise Deisler says. “Since we cannot hold Mutt March as we traditionally have in the past, Mutt Market provides us with the opportunity to celebrate our love of pets with our community in a fun, safe atmosphere.”

On top of holding the event outside, the number of vendors has been reduced with enough space between them, people will be asked to wear facemasks, hand sanitizer will be available and the event has been extended to keep the crowd size down.

The Mutt Market will take place at the Humane Society at 8464 Beach Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can bring your own dogs, but they have to stay on the leash.

The event is free and you don’t need a reservation, but reservations are preferred. You can go here to make one and to learn more about the event.

The whole premise of the Mutt Market is to provide a day of shopping and adventure, while also raising awareness for the Humane Society and finding new homes for the pets.
