Couple who kept children in cages, horse trough sentenced to four years in prison

SPARTA, Wis. — A Wisconsin couple convicted of child neglect were sentenced Friday to four years in prison.

Travis and Amy Headrick pleaded guilty in February to keeping children locked in cages and another in a horse trough, WXOW reported.

In addition to their prison sentences, the couple will also serve seven years probation, WXOW reported.

Police arrested the couple in 2018 after a tip from witnesses. Children told investigators that they spent much of their day locked in cages. Another child was in a horse trough that had metal fencing over the top of it and was secured with zip ties.
