REEDLEY, Calif. — A California man died as he tried to save three children who were caught in the current of the Kings River.

According to KFSN and CNN, Manjeet Singh, 29, of Fresno, was at Reedley Beach on Wednesday evening when he saw the children struggling in the water. He jumped in to save them but was quickly pulled underwater, Reedley police said.
Beachgoers saved two of the children, while the third, an 8-year-old girl, was rescued after spending about 15 minutes underwater, CNN reported. She remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Rescue workers found Singh unresponsive in the water about 40 minutes later, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to CNN.
