The flight had taken off from Denver International Airport bound for Orlando when the urgent mid-flight delivery occurred. Captain Chris Nye, with help from the first officer, diverted the plane to Pensacola and arranged for paramedics to meet the plane at the gate.

Nye credited Giraldo as being “exemplary” and “calm” throughout the flight.

“Diana again went above and beyond after the completion of the flight to coordinate our return to Orlando. This was a job well done, and I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft,” Nye said.

In honor of the event, the mother gave the baby the middle name “Sky.”
