MACON, Ga. — Deputies had to use a stun gun to take an off-duty Georgia police officer into custody early Saturday morning.

Jones, who worked at the Dublin Police Department, was detained by bar security, WMAZ reported. When the victim found out Jones was an off-duty police officer, he said he would not press charges if the phone were returned.

Jones denied taking the phone although surveillance video showed him taking it, investigators said. Jones was detained by deputies after a brief struggle. As they were walking him out of the club office, he started resisting again. Jones complied with deputies after they used a Taser. He resisted again when they tried to put him in the patrol car and deputies had to physically put him in the vehicle.

Jones was arrested and charged with felony theft and obstruction of peace. He was released from jail on $5,350 bond, according to jail records.

Dublin police said Jones, a member of the force for about a year, has been suspended, WMAZ reported.
