Police on break at doughnut shop nab three home invasion suspects

CHICO, Calif. — Police officers taking a break at a Chico, California doughnut shop were prompted to investigate a car with three people in it after drug paraphernalia fell out of the pocket of the driver.

Around 3 a.m. Monday morning, police officers were taking a break at the Donut Nook when they noticed the driver, Shayla Robins-Bailey, drop drug paraphernalia as she got of a car with two other passengers, according to KRCR-TV.

Police then initiated narcotics investigation and found one passenger, Matthew Considine, had a loaded gun in his waistband. Police later learned that Considine is a convicted felon. As the search continued, police found two more semi-automatic firearms, drugs, and narcotics paraphernalia.

According to the police report, 15 minutes into the investigation in the doughnut shop parking lot, a male victim called the Chico Police Department dispatch to report that he had just been robbed inside his home. The victim he was woken by two males who brandished weapons and demanded money. The victim told police that Considine and the third suspect at the scene, Joseph Lawrence, pistol whipped him and said they would kill him if he called police. The pair left with the victim’s wallet, cell phone and cash which were found by police inside the vehicle.

Considine, Lawrence and Robins-Bailey were arrested on home invasion robbery charges. Robins-Bailey was also booked on DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lawrence charges included felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats, armed in the commission of a felony, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of high-capacity magazine, and narcotics sales. Considine was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats, armed in commission of a felony, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a high-capacity magazine, drug sales, and possession of a concealed and loaded firearm by a felon.

The home invasion victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
