Harrowing video shows a railroad worker in India save a child who had fallen onto the tracks from the path of an oncoming train.
India’s Ministry of Railways shared video of the rescue Monday on social media.
“Pointsman Mr. Mayur Shelkhe saved the life of a child just in the nick of the time. He risked his life to save the life of the child,” the agency said. “We salute his exemplary courage and utmost devotion to the duty.”

At Vangani station of Central Railway, Pointsman Mr. Mayur Shelkhe saved the life of a child just in the nick of the time. He risked his life to save the life of the child.

Video shows an adult and child walking along the platform. The child falls from it as a train approaches. The child tries to get back onto the platform but is unable. Shelkhe is then seen racing along the tracks over to the child. He then lifts her onto the platform, before sliding onto it moments before the train arrives.
Shelke was honored later in the day for his heroic actions.
