Non-profit uses Super Bowl watch party for fight against cancer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As millions across the nation turned their eyes to the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles for Super Bowl Sunday, V for Victory put their efforts towards the fight against cancer.

V for Victory is a non-profit focused on providing resources and services to families in need for the fight against cancer. On Sunday, the organization held a fundraiser at Hangar One in Jacksonville’s Craig Airport, with over 500 people attending, including the Jacksonville Jaguars mascot and two team cheerleaders.

Action News Jax spoke with Liana Marasco, a member of the board of directors for V for Victory, who was overwhelmed by the support and turnout.

“Every dollar really does count. It does make a difference. And with every dollar we do raise, it helps us serve even more families,” said Marasco.

One of the owners of Hangar One, Jennifer Holdeman, echoed that sentiment Sunday night.

“It just shows what a great community Jacksonville really is,” Holdeman stated proudly. “We’re a giant town but we have the biggest hearts.”

Holdeman says she hopes this is just the first of many more events like it at Hangar One.
